Most of the CR crew are coming to the show by plane, but John and I came by car so we could bring all the table stuff with us. Not my first choice as I’ve flown in each of the four prior years I’ve attended, but it needed to be done. For us it was a 12 hour drive which we broke it up with one overnight stay and a road show podcast.
We made it into Manhatten at about 3 PM yesterday. Getting unloaded at the Javits Center is always a bit of a headache. John and I negotiated traffic and found the loading bay where we were instructed to head back out and find a man in the orange shirt a couple blocks away to get scheduled to unload and get a ticket. We decided it wasn’t worth it and just made our way on to the Jane.
Parking is always a bit of an issue in New York and the garage across from our hotel was full and showed no hope of getting us in for the length of stay. After about a half hour juggling other hotel garages with no success, I returned to the Jane’s paking area and saw someone leave. After some negotiation, the car was parked and I joined John who was loading the CR stuff into a van via a car service. We decided to simply get dropped in front of the convention center which worked well. Once inside, the Reed folks were great helping us find our spot on the show floor and getting credentials in had with no trouble. Of course our spot on the show floor wasn’t ready for us to set-up so we ended up leaving everything locked away in the show office for the night.
Our driver though was a bit of a trip as she didn’t know the location of the Javits Center. We guided her to it, but you have to realize that this is a really big building and a key location in New York. For a driver in the city, I would expect that one of the main exhibition halls would be a regular stop. As she pulled though, she commented “Is this new?” I guess she was new to the job.
In the evening, John and I grabbed food at the Jane for a quick dinner and early night. Today, everyone begins arriving and the show will formally get underway. So far we’re off to a pretty good start for 2011.

Welcome to the official Comic Related blog for the 2010 New York Comic Con!
I’m Chuck and I’ll be charting everything I see during this year’s show via this blog much like I did during San Diego last year. Thanks to a couple stray WordPress apps and the occasional bit of cell signal, I can us my iPhone and iPad to keep this blog flowing in real time. This will allow me to post text, pictures and quite possibly a bit of video direct from the show floor. So long as there is cell signal (which may be questionable at times with that many people all in one place), we’re set to provide a mix of instant, on site coverage as live as can be presented.
Let the games begin!
