Much to my surprise, this is actually an interesting story that really has nothing to do with porn, or at least not so far in this 6 page preview. The story is actually about girl who has always had visions of demons and the underworld since she was little. Now that she’s grown she learns that her family is from hell and proceeds to kick demon butt.
This preview issue opens with Jezzerie Jaden as a little girl seeing her juvenile inspired “illusions” then shifts to the present where she is hooked up to machines and being evaluated by a doctor. Apparently she’s not yet aware of the reality she’s about to have to cope with in the proper series. This gives us just a small taste of what’s to come – enough to reel us in.
Christina Z created the story with Jameson and then scripted it herself using intelligent dialogue that resonates with both a male and female audience. Both the narrative and proper dialogue are fluent and charming as they coax the reader into this world of imagination.
Mukesh Singh’s art… well… it sings! It’s just a beautiful mastery of the artistic form with wonderful transitions between the natural and supernatural realms. His layouts and techniques fully embrace, capture and utilize this fantastic world, and the way he intertwines the two realms is superb.
The six page story isn’t the only content in this issue though as there are several supplements that add to the experience. There are two very well written and revealing forewords, one by Jameson, the other by Editor-In-Chief Gotham Chopra and Publisher Sharad Devarajan. Then following the story is a two page interview with Jameson who tells of her inspiration for the story and more. And following that are several pinups and variant covers of Jezzerie Jaden and other characters in the series.
This may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it does have that same flare and mood of other Virgin titles, but with a female touch and essence added. For a preview issue it stands up quite well. Time will only tell if the actual series holds the same standard. |
