We're Counting Down To Heroes Convention!

The very latest on the upcoming event ... Comic Related coverage begins June 20th

MAY 30, 2008 UPDATE FROM THE COORDINATORS OF HEROES CONVENTION

SPECIAL EDITION! Read below under "HeroesCon 2008" for additions to our list of hotels providing a HeroesCon rate! Because of this we're sending this Heroes Hotline out to our pros and exhibitor lists. While we usually ONLY do this if we have news that affects everybody, it's a safe bet that with just a few weeks left until HeroesCon, we'll probably include everybody until then, as we'll be announcing table locations, check-in info, and more. We'll resume not e-mailing you each Friday (unless you want us to) in just a few weeks!

First big news this week: while there are individual room nights still available at both, it looks like we've effectively sold out both the Hilton Charlotte Center City AND the Westin Charlotte! What? Seriously? Oh yes--fortunately Shelton has been casting his net farther and farther out, as we could see from pretty much the first day we announced our HeroesCon rates at those two hotels that the rooms were going WAY faster than normal.

So Shelton has signed contracts with TWO more hotels: the Hilton Garden Inn Uptown, and the Hampton Inn! Both are just two blocks east of the Convention Center, and both are providing us with $99/night rooms! So if you've been hanging onto some overpriced room reservations because you couldn't find anything better, ditch em and call:

HAMPTON INN: CHARLOTTE UPTOWN
1.800-HAMPTON

or

HILTON GARDEN INN
1.877.STAY.HGI

BE SURE TO SAY THAT YOU WANT THE "HEROESCON RATE". There's a good chance that the rate won't go "live" until Monday, so try back then if it's not working yet. We've posted this info to our blog as well, so if you have any problems please don't hesitate to post in the Comments section--we'll get right back to you with an answer!

But that's not the ONLY new HeroesCon news this week, although we're in the middle of about six different deadline races, so we've hardly had time to make any announcements. But this should make up for it: new today to the HeroesCon 08 Guest List is Marvel artist Ron Wilson, best known for his work on mainstay titles like MARVEL TWO IN ONE and THE THING, as well as POWER MAN, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, and many more.

Ron is appearing courtesy of our buddies over at The Hero Initiative, whose work "...creates a financial safety net for yesterdays' creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work." We're big fans of theirs, and are pleased as punch to help in any way we can! Make sure you go by their booth at the convention and make a donation of some kind--it's a great cause!

Also new today are a few old friends, although I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate being called "old"--but we've known them for a long time. Two of our VERY best friends are Steve Saffel and Dana Hayward, who--regardless of their extensive resumes in comics, manga, and book-publishing--come all the way down here every summer just to WORK FOR US the whole time. Crazy! But we love them for it, and it's hard to imagine being able to put on a convention like ours without the help of Steve and Dana and the MANY staff members like them.

They're joined on the guest list by another old friend, North Carolina resident Budd Root, the creator of CAVEWOMAN! Budd not only threw his hat in the ring earlier today, but he brought a big giant original to print in the program book as well--what a guy!

But wait, there's more! On Wednesday we somehow found the time to add some more names to the already-packed list--literally, at this point we're having to ask pros to share tables, it's so full! What names, too--check it:

CHRIS BRUNNER, our old friend, and artist of the upcoming LOOSE ENDS from 12 Gauge, as well as on numerous books including THE RIDE and GOTHAM CENTRAL!

SEAN CHEN, returning champeen, member of theBLVD studio, and excellent draughtsman behind NOVA, WOLVERINE, and X-MEN: THE END!

SANFORD GREENE, who smiles a lot and giggles even more! And who is working now on the upcoming METHOD MAN GN, besides past work on Teen Titans, Army of Darkness, and more!

RICO RENZI, blistering colorist, proud papa, and printer extraordinaire. Also with credits on THE RIDE, GOTHAM CENTRAL, and 24/SEVEN!

MARK TEXEIRA, the smiling painter who always dashes into the Art Auction at the last minute, having just finished his submission on stage! Past artist of GHOST RIDER, WOLVERINE, and his own PSCYTHE!

Holy Cow! I would go on, but I have to get back to the grindstone, putting together the giant Program Book, prints, badges--all the cool stuff that you're going to get for FREE in just a few weeks! See you next Friday for another Heroes Hotline, or just check our blog for news all week long!

• We clapped ourselves on the back for another rousing edition of the Heroes Discussion Group, including some pictures! You can still join the discussion on our blog post regarding what to discuss next!
