A Word From One of the Creators

From the desk of Eric Ratcliffe

You have to love the timing on when some of these were wrote. We found out last month that Janet isn't actually dead but in some sort of weird sleep.

I do have to address something here: Bill Mantlo and Brian Michael Bendis are writers from two very different time periods. [That was] the only comment on last week's strip kind of bothered me a little. I mean I'm not going to sit here and completely defend Brian as the man's work really speaks for itself. Books like Alias and Ultimate Spider-Man and Powers all show the man at his best. When stretched thin we get his first two arcs of Mighty Avengers where he easily wrote the worst Black Widow I've ever read in my life.

But this in no way makes him a bad writer. Mantlo's work was powerul, strong and definitely well worth the read (which, speaking of, I still want Rom and Micronauts stuff). But what I mean about the two different time periods is very simple, the style from almost 20 years ago really doesn't work in the industry anymore. While it holds up strong against anything modern (I'm looking at you Captain Britain) I certainly don't see a book like X-Men Forever completely selling out.

Siege is so packed each issue that it feels like Brian has learned from all the comments all over the place online about his decompression. I honestly think he's one of the strongest writers today and look forward to his two new avengers ongoings.

Anyways, back to the strip - we have the clerk yelling at us which was an amusing little gag. Not to mention the Kick Ass t-shirt, which I really like the simplicity of.

Next week: Eric once again gets his hands on something he shouldn't as I discuss monster movies in the commentary! See you in 7, folks!
