C2E2 Day 3

By John Wilson

To continue my on-going analogy, if Saturday was worth of a "Holy Moley", then Sunday, at the least, deserves a "Zounds". The last day of the con was easily as well attended as Friday. And the crowd was easily as enthusiastic. It also seems like there were more people buying merchandise than the two days prior. I saw a number of people walking by the table with bags full of swag and posters, large action figure boxes were being balanced in outstretched hands and many a child's stroller seemed to double as a shopping cart.

The gods of podcasting were truly shining on us today. We achieved a number of great interviews. I was finally able to get connected with the creator of That Monkey Tune's Michael Kandlaft. There is a level of complexity to his work that I did not appreciate until I had the chance to speak with him. I had the opportunity to speak to Justin Castaneda again about his series of children's books "When I Was Little". The third book has just come out and in my opinion is the best one yet. I also acquired an adorable Baby Hellboy drawing. Why this talented young man isn't famous yet is beyond me. One of the biggest and most pleasant surprises was Arie Kaplan. Mr. Kaplan came to the Comic Related table and presented me with a massive book entitled "From Krakow to Krypton". The book is an examination of Jewish comic creators throughout the history of comics. Through the course of our interview, I found that he is a contributor to Mad Magazine, writes for several of the major publishers and wrote the upcoming House video game. He also wrote one of my favorite recent Superman stories, "Man of Snow". During the course of our conversation, I found out that he has and continues to have an enviable career writing stories that he truly cares about. Chuck Moore achieved a number of interviews that you will also have the pleasure of hearing soon, along with my own, on the Related Recap.

Sunday, like the rest of the con, was a visual feast. There is so much activity, so many people and so many costumed characters that it takes almost the full convention to see it all. With five photo galleries and more to cone, we were trying hard to make sure that you had as much of the visual experience as possible for you to enjoy. But though cliche as it may be, you just had to be there. The experience must be felt for yourself. So start making plans now. C2E2 2011! I'll see you there.
