A Word From One of the Creators
From the desk of Eric Ratcliffe
Okay so I'm still wrapping my head around this whole situation so your going to have to excuse me as I try to make the most sense possible. The last few months have been incredible for us at NCD. The team has become a well oiled machine, we got some cool offers and even won an award. We were naturally pretty happy and finally getting comfortable with each other as a team.
Monday morning I receive a weird email, well not so much weird as it was angry. In the email there was a .pdf for a cease and desist from someone I'd never even heard from. The cease and desist basically claimed that NCD was a ripoff of this man's strip, which ran back at the time that books like the Ultimate line were being launched, Morrison was just starting New X-Men and Geoff Johns was still writing smaller books and James Robinson hadn't left DC for the first time yet.
Also included in this email was a preview of the man's strip which I have included in this weeks strip (because for those that know me, I have the balls to get myself into even deeper legal trouble if I know I'm in the right) which shows a slightly similar form to Bill and I's strip that we all know and love as New Comic Day.
Now the thing I find the oddest about this man's claim is the fact that New Comic Day is Bill and I. It can't be a rip off of his strip as even though the concept is similar, Bill and I are using versions of ourselves in the strip for humors sake.
Of course I forwarded the email to the rest of the team and we all discussed where to go next with it. We've decided that we will very much continue as we think we have something special here and we aren't going to let this creator bully us.
Oh and talking to Lisa a little more as this whole situation developed, I found this very interesting strip in a beat up old magazine I found at a thrift shop here in Mass that was from the '60s. I had to scan it and show it to Bill, Chad and Lisa and Lisa agreed to help me restore it as best we could. We got a kick out of the similar appearance and look of the characters as these guys could basically be...well I'll let you guys decide for yourselves on that.

I may have another update for you guys in a few hours here depending on what else is going on with all this chaos. I'll update as soon as I'm able.
Next week we return to what was supposed to run this week as Bill and I discuss a fanboy crush of mine. See you in 7!
