Learn a little about Lisa...

Current Location:
East Texas (Texan born and raised, yeehah!) Though luckily the hickville accent seems to have passed me by, at least I think it did. However, I do seem to say ya'll a lot... a whole lot. lol

Favorite Super Hero(s) (Because that is important information!): Green Arrow, Rogue

My Comic History: I will admit now that I was not a big comic reader when I was younger. It just wasn't something I was exposed to, I was to busy playing with dolls and watching Disney flicks, lol So it comes as quite a surprise to find myself now totally immersed in the world of comics. I love it more every day I'm a part of it. I can however say I was big into Garfield, Peanuts, Calvin & Hobbes, the Sunday Funnies as they say. I read those a lot when I was younger, so in a way I was digging comics back then, just no super heroes. So in my attempt to become more wise to comics in general I've started to pick up some books and trade paperbacks of series I think I might be interested in. So far Green Arrow/Black Canary is my favorite.

How I got my start in comics: I began working in comics around February of 2007. I started out as a flatter for a few different colorists. Not sure what a flatter does? Then just check out my other website for my flatting work: www.just-flats.net It kind of happened by accident... or just one of those meant to be kind of things. I'd never really been into comics, I knew of them of course, but never imagined I could have a job in the field.

I worked flatting almost exclusively for a year, maybe a little longer. Then decided it might be fun to actually work at learning the art of coloring for myself. So I picked up the book Hi-Fi Color for Comics by Brian and Kristy Miller(I do some work flatting for them, so it was a no brainer that I should pick up the book by them. They do some amazing work.) The book and critiques from Brian helped me out tremendously when I first started coloring, it pointed out so many fantastic things I had no idea about when I was trying to teach myself the process.

After a couple months of practice I began responding to ads for coloring jobs. I didn't get a lot of work, but a lot of people told me I had potential, which was nice. After a couple more months I actually started landing a few jobs, good times! ^_^ One of my first jobs was for an all ages graphic novel, it was so much fun! I loved every minute of that one. I don't think its been printed yet, but it was sure a good time. So since then I've landed a few moe great gigs, kept on practicing and I feel I'm improving with each new piece I color. It has been a blast and I look forward to continuing the journey. I know I have a long way to go, but I'm getting there and having a great time doing it!

Most recently I've come on board the team at Red Handed Studios and will be coloring thier series Dyna Girl. I am so excited about this one, the art by Harold Edge has a fabulous kind of a cartoonish feel to it, which I love! I'm still really into cartoons and animation of any kind, so I always seem to gravitate toward more stylized art.

Along the way I'm also picking up a few other abilities in the comics game. I can do some digital inking, nothing exceptionally brilliant but passable. I'm also trying my hand at a bit of lettering, though I'm not sure I have the chops for logo design so I could never fully take part in that side of things. Coloring is my first love and what I hope I'm best at.
