What a glorious ride it has been and it only took 2 years for the wait.
In what might have been one of the longest times between issues a book has seen these last few years, we can now hold the finale of Planetary, issue 27, in our hands and how great it is. Definitely less action-packed as some issues, this was a great issue to wrap up an amazing series, especially where more happened in 27 issues than happens in most books put out today.
Planetary is fast at work helping the world in all the ways it can when the head of Planetary, Elijah Snow is now set on one main task: finding and saving Ambrose Chase, ex-member of Planetary, now currently dying outside of time.
It's simply awesome to me that the creators didn't want to finish the series with some battle orgy of sorts, but rather a more peaceful solution to an old problem in the series. Ambrose's "death" was told a few years back in the book and one that I distressed would not be touched on, as after issue 26 a good 2 years ago, the book ended with the demise of Planetary's chief villains, the Four.
A great Warren Ellis story is only helped by a great artistic effort by John Cassaday. While Cassaday has had a lot of other commitments, most notable being Astonishing X-Men with Joss Whedon, he put in the required time to make this last issue simply beautiful. Last but not least, let's talk the cover. In comics, a lot of covers just don't convey anything. Planetary 27 offers a cover that tells you just about everything you need to know about this book, it's characters and what they go through. It's worth the price alone to buy it for that. All in all, this issue was the perfect ending.
