Fantastic Four #572

Chuck Moore on the issue!

This month's issue of Fantastic Four resonated with me for a lot of reasons and people who know me will be able to put the pieces together pretty easy. For those who don't, let me simply say that this is a fine, fine story and one that had a lot of heart. It managed to balance the cosmic with the familial and found that perfect balance that should be at the heart of every Fantastic Four story. It served as both a great introduction to the writing style Jonathan Hickman will bring to the series and, at the same time, fixes a lot of things that have been wrong with Marvel's first family and the title for years.

Let me just say that my picking Fantastic Four for any kind of Hot Shot is a pretty dramatic turn around as I have never been a fan of the team. I respected the cornerstone they filled in the Marvel universe, but saw them as fun when they guest starred, but rarely a title I would go out of my way to read on a regular basis. The highest compliment I can offer Hickman here is to say that he has completely changed the opinion of this reader.

We're back to the core team. We've been dropped, almost immediately into the highest order of cosmic Marvel. Throughout it all, family is at the center of the final resolution of the arc. Trust me when I say, this is a great issue. If you can, jump back to 570 and read forward, but get on board as I feel like the title has returned to the classic feel that hasn't been around with any regularity since issues #232-293 (dipping way back to Byrne's run of 1981-1986 ... aka the "Second Golden Age" on the title). You will not be disappointed here and, like me, you might honestly be surprised how much fun the Fan Four can be once again.

The Official Word

This is the shocking conclusion to dramatic first arc from Jonathan Hickman and Dale Eaglesham that spins Marvel's first family into a bold new era of adventure. Be there to see Reed Richards SOLVE EVERYTHING.
