Can You Step Up to the 30 Characters Challenge?

This November, a group of artists, writers and creative types are challenging themselves to create 30 new characters in just 30 days - a character a day for every day in the month of November. What about you? Are you up for a challenge?

"The world needs new characters," says 30 Characters challenger Tyler James (Super Seed, Over). "When I was a kid, I'd create characters left and right. Some I'd never develop any further than a rough sketch, while others I'd flesh out and make the stars of my comics. Today, when I work with kids in the creating comics classes I teach, they have no problem spontaneously churning out quirky new characters with very little prompting. Honestly, I envy that. Creating new characters is a lot of fun. And I realized I haven't been doing enough of it lately."

And thus, the 30 Characters Challenge was born. For James, it will provide a creative kick in the pants to continue filling out characters for a new super hero universe he's building for an upcoming comic project in 2010. Other challengers were immediately drawn to the idea of the challenge. Comics creator Mike Gallagher is participating in order to "regain that childhood spirit of fearlessly designing characters, be them good or bad!" Ken Drab, creator of the popular online strip Rick the Stick sees the Challenge as a chance to create some new characters for his webcomic. "I'm always sketching in meetings at work so I might as well give it a TRY!" says Drab.

The 30 Characters Challenge is an open challenge and kicks off November 1. To find out more about the challenge, or to sign up, head over to the 30 Characters Challenge website.
