R.E.B.E.L.S #8
Chuck Moore on the issue!
Way back on December 1st, 2004, I wrote (here on Comic Related) about my "guilty pleasures / MIA treasures". These were essentially series I would most like to see return and really loved. In the eight I described, I talked about L.E.G.I.O.N. which eventually became R.E.B.E.L.S. It was one of those series that flew under the radar, but won me as a devout fan. Being a life long Legion of Super-Heroes reader (some of my earliest comic memories are of the Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes title), I thought the basic premise of taking some of that future Legion concepts and dropping them into the modern DCU was genius.
In my opinion, the execution was flawless and the Licensed Extra-Governmental Interstellar Operatives Network (which eventually evolved into the now better know Revolutionary Elite Brigade to Eradicate L.E.G.I.O.N. Supremacy) was a perfect balance of dark humor and creative storytelling. It marked the kind of interstellar fun I was really looking for and walked through the modern version of DC aliens in a fun and comfortable way. Spanning 1989 through 1996, the team in its various forms had a great run.
So I deeply lamented its cancellation and would wait a full 13 years before my R.E.B.E.L.S. returned. About time! What I wasn't expecting was the older series to return without missing a beat in terms for style, fun and approach. If you are not reading R.E.B.E.L.S. you are missing some of the very best comic storytelling the DCU serves up. The fact that we here at CR can support the series through the column penned by Eric Ratcliffe (check out R.E.B.E.L. Yell for more) is icing on the cake as this is a story I want to see told, characters that feel like old friends returning and Vril Dox back in action... need we say more? BUY IT. That's an order. You'll thank us.

The Official Word
Word of Starro's invading horde and Vril Dox's rebellion reaches the masses, and sides are drawn. Plus, the mighty Khund fleet enters the battle against Starro! Too bad for them. Plus: The all-new, all-dangerous Omega Men.
