1st Mid Summers Expo Boasts Many Creators and Memorabilia

Mid Summers Expo - a large creator and memorabilia convention - will have artists, writers, publishers, dealers, and sports guests gathered together displaying their art and speaking to patrons.

Mid Summers Expo will occur on Saturday, July 11, from ten to 7 p.m., at the City Sports Center Arena, located at 3401 E Lafayette in Detroit, just a few miles down from Greek Town Casino.

Admission is $5 per adult at the door. Children, ages 12 and under, are free with paid adult. Parking at the City Sports Center is free and securely gated.

"We have gathered a great group of Michigan talent along with those from out of state. Not to mention the unique dealers and wonderful charities attending. And, with the help of City Sports Center we made sure the price is affordable for all," said Rudolf Farchione, Mid Summers Expo promoter.

Some of the many talented guests at this year's Mid Summers Expo include:
Darren Banks, NHL Boston Bruins, IHL Detroit Vipers.
Akil Adams, Pro Hockey player , OHL Windsor Spitfires, IHL Kalamazoo KWings.
Larry Stroman, making a rare appearance is known for his work with Marvel Comics, and work on Black Panther, Alien Legion, and X-MEN.
Tom Sullivan, special effects artist on Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2, the creation of Royal Oak native Sam Raimi, director of the Spider-Man movie trilogy.
Mark Bloodworth, Artist/ Creator known for his work on Marvel Comics Hellraiser, Nightstreets, and the Ripper Legacy.
Bill Messner-Loebs, cartoonist/writer whose work has appeared in the pages of Comico's Jonny Quest, Marvel's Thor, DC's Wonder Woman, Flash, Dr. Fate, Impulse, Hawkman, Green Arrow, as well as the Batman newspaper strip. He also wrote and illustrated the creator-owned Journey: The Adventures of Wolverine MacAllister, which is about 19th century frontier life in Michigan. Journey has recently been collected into a trade paperback by IDW Publishing.

In addition to the nearly 150 guests, many exciting events are scheduled, such as costume and art contests; AMV (anime music videos) presented by Youmacon along with indie music videos presented by Alien Inquisition; and various gaming tournaments, including Starship Troopers and Babylon 5. There are door prizes being raffled off as well including a 1991 Corvette.

"It's a great place to get information and make connections, find that hard to find piece of memorabilia, and with all the events, have a full day of fun for adults and kids alike," said Farchione.
