The Future of Marvel NOW! Are Savage Amateurs?
Marvel began a third round of teasers for Marvel NOW! titles this week hinting at books releasing in January 2013. With New York Comic Con this coming weekend and monthly solicitations for January to follow, more news on these titles will be revealed in short order. For now, we can speculate as to what the teasers infer.
First up on Wednesday was this image and the vague accompanying text:
The Future of Marvel NOW! is Savage.
Frank Cho
January 2013
We all know Frank Cho is famous for his curvy women. In 2005, he did a Shanna the She-Devil mini-series. The word "Savage" seems to indicate the Savage Land, as do the claw marks. Some may think Wolverine, but the lines would be cleaner. It would be safe to assume the story, whatever it may be, could take place in the Savage Land. Could it be more Shanna, or possibly Ka-Zar? We'll just have to wait for the reveal to see.
The second teaser on Thursday had this image and text:
The Future of Marvel NOW! is Amateurs.
Kieron Gillen
Jamie McKelvie
January 2013
You may recall in the Marvel NOW! Point One teasers released recently, there was one image featuring the names of these particular creators, indicating one of the stories in the one-shot anthology would feature their collaboration. Well, in that teaser image we saw Miss America Chavez (Vengeance) kicking the crap out of Kid Loki. In addition to this, origianlly the Point One book was teased as involving Young Avengers characters Hulkling and Wiccan. Add that to the word "amateurs" and one could guess that whatever the book is, Gillen and McKelvie will be tackling younger characters. Maybe it's a relaunch for Young Avengers, New Warriors or even Avengers Academy. Or maybe it's something entirely new. We'll know soon enough.
And finally, on Friday this image and text was sent out:
The Future of Marvel NOW! is Superior.
Slott
Stegman
Ramos
Camuncoli
January 2013

The talk of the town, as it were, is that this is hinting to a relaunch for Spider-Man. As we know from December solicitations, Amazing Spider-Man, written by Slott, is coming to an end with issue #700. We also know from previous announcements that one creative team would be keeping their book, or at least the character. Stegman, Ramos and Camuncoli have all recently worked on the Spider-Man titles, and the word "superior" above is colored in red and blue. It's all speculation at this point, but it would seem to point to a new Spidey title. No, folks, Mark Millar's Icon title isn't coming into the Marvel U it seems.
With New York Comic Con, the end cap of the convention season, coming up next weekend, we're certain Marvel has saved some announcements or at least clarification for that show. So we'll see how these particular teasers play out... if they don't reveal them this week before the convention even gets here, as they did with news prior to San Diego Comic Con...
