X-Men Forever #1
Bill Gladman on the issue
SPOILER ALERT
Timing is everything. Never more true than this evening as a recorded interview with Chris Claremont goes live on the site the same day as his much anticipated X-Men Forever book hits the stands.
And as if you didn't already see this coming. X-Men Forever #1 by Chris Claremont and Tom Grummett is my pick for "Hot Shot of the Week."
I have been eagerly waiting this book since about 9:03 pm Saturday April 4th. I haven't been excited about a X-Men book since about issue #175, but when I learned about this book...straight from the writer himself that same evening.
Nuff Said.
X-Men Forever hits the ground running never skipping a beat from issue #3 of the X-Men book also written by Claremont back in 1991. (For those of you a little rusty about the conclusion of that story it has recently been collected and re-printed in X-Men Forever Alpha. I strongly recommend you pick this up and enjoy the extra build up to this story)
From the very first page I was floored...man when Chris first told me Tom Grummett was the artist attached to the first story arc I wasn't sure how he would work out on the book...but WOW...his work is just freakin' gorgeous in this book.
This is the X-Men I fondly remember. This is Chris Claremont doing what he does best...spot on character development mixed with just the right amount of action. This book felt like an "Old School" Marvel book right down to the corner box on the cover and the throw back Power Man and Iron Fist advertisement inside!
I loved the fact that Jean and Logan stay in contact with each other via a secretive telepathic link...Kitty can see changes in the romantic status quo in the group and...(yep that's right I said Kitty)...and the X-Men act like a team again.
Storm is proud and headstrong, team-mates are actually concerned if Wolverine has been hurt or not...Nightcrawler is back and looked incredible drawn by Tom...
I didn't even mind Gambit.
Well worth the wait.
Well worth the hype.
Pick up a copy of issue #1 while you still can!
