DC Entertainment Announces JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA

Posted by Brant W. Fowler

At their All Access panel at Fan Expo Toronto Sunday, August 26th, DC Entertainment announced the brand new ongoing JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA by Geoff Johns and David Finch. The book will launch in 2013 and is comprised of a unique cast of characters, including Green Arrow, Katana, Martian Manhunter, the new Green Lantern, Stargirl, Vibe, Hawkman and Catwoman.

This book will not take the place of JUSTICE LEAGUE, though. Instead, there will be three Justice League teams with JUSTICE LEAGUE, JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA and JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK.

"They're underdogs who have everything to prove and something to lose. They're a team of unlikely heroes who will help one another discover they're as A-List as anybody -- yes, even Vibe. Though getting there won't be easy. Why they're formed, why each member joins, what they're after and who the society of villains is they're trying to take apart will all be clear in the first issue when it hits early 2013. David and I are really focused on delving deep into what it's like to not be a member of the big seven and why, sometimes, the grass isn't always greener on the other side." said Geoff Johns of the team and book.

In an interview with MTV Geek, Johns also confirmed that all three books would be set in the same universe and things will tie the three together here and there.

On drawing these particular characters that appear in the new title, Finch said to MTV Geek, "I love the fact that it's not every single most popular character in the company; it's characters that don't really have the same kind of exposure some of them. So it really gives us a chance to define those characters, and put our stamp on them. That's really exciting to me. The chance to take them, make them larger than life, but also we get real, and grounded, and as believable as we can make it. Everything I've seen so far, it's going to be a lot of fun."

Johns compared the contrast in tones between JUSTICE LEAGUE and JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA as the same difference between the old JLA and JSA books, the latter taking on the JSA feel.

"You'll see why they're selected, and why this team is going to give the real Justice League a run for its money, because the relationships in this team are going to be incredibly significant," Johns continued in the interview. "There's going to be a real learning curve with all the teams, but has the benefit of a true leader in Steve Trevor. Steve Trevor has a heart and soul that's going to bring these characters that, on first glance, might not ever gel - what does Stargirl ever have in common with Catwoman? How's that going to work?"

However you look at it, this is a very interesting development with an intriguing cast.
