SDCC 2012: Marvel Comics - House of Ideas Panel

Marvel is up to bat with their usual House of Ideas panel. Here's the panel description followed by the highlights from the panel:

1:00-2:00 Marvel: House of Ideas - Love having the best comics in the industry on your mobile devices? Want to know how Marvel stays on the cutting edge of technology while bringing you what you've come to love? Well, this panel is for you, True Believer! Get exciting news from chief creative officer Joe Quesada on what's happening on the Marvel Comics App, Marvel Dot Com, and Marvel's vast social media presence in this don't-miss panel. Room 7AB

First up is a discussion on Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited, the Marvel Comics app and the free digital codes in the print books. All the $3.99 or higher books include those codes. If those codes are well-received, they could pop up in all books. They've also been using them in certain collected editions as well.

For those at the show, Marvel is offering a special exclusive Doctor Doom with Infinity Gauntlet figure for those that sign up for MDCU at the show. It is also available for subscribing here: www.marvel.com/victorvondoom

The panel talk shifted to the ReEvolution initiative and Marvel NOW!, but only as it regards digital comics. More Marvel NOW! discussion will take place in other panels.

If you buy issues #1, #6 or #10 of Avengers Vs. X-Men in print, you'll get a code for the digital version plus Infinite Comics at no additional charge.

Every one of the Marvel NOW! books' first issues will have activation on their covers where you can hold up your smart phones to the cover and get a recap or more info.

Two of the Marvel podcasts were discussed, being The Mighty Marvel Podcast and This Week in Marvel. Both are on iTunes and on Marvel.com.

Joe Quesada talked about Stan Lee being Social Media before there was Social Media with his "Stan's Soapbox." Quesada called him the world's first and only mutant. Talk continued about the various Social Media efforts by Marvel. They noted that none of it is outsourced, it is them interacting with us.

If users at the show check onto thinking about Marvel this weekend on GetGlue, there are some exclusive SDCC 2012 ones.

There was some talk of Marvel Superheroes: What The--?!, and then a new one was aired featuring Gwen Stacy and Spidey on a date at MODOK's pizzeria.

Marvel Avengers Alliance, a Facebook game was mentioned. It is written by Marvel writers, and there may be some tidbits for the game during the SDCC Marvel Games panel and the Avengers vs. X-Men panel.
