Big Budget TMNT Remake on Hold
If you were excited about a Michael Bay-produced, Jonathan Liebesman-directed reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the big screen... Well, it looks like you'll have to wait a little bit longer than you thought. Reports have been emerging that the film is the latest victim of the re-tooling process, with Paramount shutting down activity on the film.
Early word from the Hollywood Reporter talked of an "indefinite" shut down, though that has since evolved into a delay for the movie, which had hit the pre-production stage and was building up its crew in Vancouver for a blend of live action and CG creatures. And though the film had been aimed at a December 2013 release, that date has now been shifted to May 2014. No official word has emerged as to the reason for the delay, though sources point to trouble with the script.
It's the latest issue to affect the film, which hit a rough patch back in March with the outcry over a change in the origin story for Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael.
And Paramount won't be best pleased to be shoving back another potential tent pole in the wake of the G.I. Joe: Retaliation delay and the more recent issues with World War Z.
