BEAUOLOGY 101: COMIC BOOKS: THE FOUR COLOR WORLD TURNS GRAY

Writer and CR friend Beau Smith has written a new Beauology 101 blog talking about the change in tone of characters like Wolverine and The Punisher noting that they have become soft over the years. Here's the teaser Beau sent along to us:

The Reason Why Wolverine and The Punisher Have Gone Soft.
The Gray Area of Four Color Comic Books.

Once upon a time you could set your moral compass to the actions of mainstream superheroes, but no more, The Punisher and Wolverine changed all of that in the late 1970s.

Today's comic book realm has become one where every hero must have the "Anti" prefix unless they want their lunch money taken from them. This appears to have happened to The Punisher and Wolverine, two of the characters that started the whole anti-hero craze. Have they gone soft in their old age?

And here's an excerpt from the blog:

It used to be that the two most feared, badass characters in the Marvel Universe were Wolverine and The Punisher. Their popularity guaranteed extra sales in whatever book they either starred or made a cameo in.

For the record, The Punisher first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #129 and Wolverine debuted in The Incredible Hulk #180. These two guys started out as villains, and quickly morphed into what we now call "anti-heroes". What that basically means is that unlike the superheroes that came before them, they would kill people with little or any remorse.
