Clockwork Con
Steampunk Convention Austin Texas
January 20-22nd 2012
As part of the Texas Steampunk community for several years, I decided last year that I wanted to give back to that community and host an event for everyone to gather and meet. An event that would draw in folks of like interests from around the state and nation to a central location. After sitting down and talking with other members of the community, I decided that Austin was the perfect location and the planning began. We are now nearly 14 months from that first conversation and less than 2 weeks from Austin's first Steampunk Convention, Clockwork Con.
We have over 1800 friends on facebook and over 800 fans on our facebook page. It is all of you who have made this event possible, and I can't even begin to thank you all for your support. I wanted to shoot you all an email as a shout to the community and to let you all know about the many events we have this year and hope to continue having every year.
To start off, Tomorrow is the last day to purchase tickets at $50 for the weekend, as well as the $99 hotel rate. Every pre-registration and hotel room helps us make sure we can keep running this event each year. You can register online at our website www.clockwork-con.com.
Over the course of three days (January 20th-22nd), we have a weekend full of panels, personalities, performances, artists and concerts. At the moment we have over 40 panels, ranging a huge variety of topics from leather working, victorian hairstyles, writing in steampunk, and the philosophy of steampunk. There will be a tea room hosted by the Steeping Room; A Burlesque show hosted by the wonderful Talloolah Love featuring many talented dancers from around Texas; A Comedy and Magic Performance by Cut Thrust & Run, Roscoe from Biloxi and Mr. Saturday and Sixpence; A Concert with the amazing sounds of Steam Powered Giraffe, Marquis of Vaudeville, Deejay Dr Q, and Bones Jangle; More than 15+ Steampunk Vendors and Artists; A gaming room run by the Steampunk Gaming company, Cracked Monocle; And a Gadgeteer Festival that provides an opportunity for artists and craftsman to show off their amazing creations.
We hope to make this weekend a steampunk event that no one will ever forget.
We have had many questions about what is expected of attendees at events like this, and the answer is, nothing. All we hope, is that you show up, enjoy yourself, and have a great time. While costumes are encouraged and fun, there is certainly no requirement for them. The steampunk community has always amazed me with its openness, so if you are new to the steampunk scene, I highly encourage you to talk to the folks you see in costume, they love to help people and share the secrets of the various gadgets and gizmos that they have created.
I know many of you will sadly not be able to make our convention for various reasons, but I want to thank you all for your support of us, and hope to see you sometime in the great state of Texas.
Cheers!
