Additional Castings Make Ender's Game Ready to Begin

Every time new casting is announced for Ender's Game, it solidifies that Orson Scott Card's beloved science fiction novel is actually becoming a reality after years spent in the wasteland of development under many creative teams. Each new actor joining the film makes the project a little more real for fans who've spent decades dreaming of a movie set at Battle School. Today, it gets a whole lot realer, with pretty much every major role having been officially cast. Most notably, Harrison Ford and Abigail Breslin, both of whom are past Oscar nominees, are now part of Gavin Hood's take on the novel, but tht's not all. Young actors have also been hired to play Bean, Bonzo, and just about everybody else, including Valentine, Peter, and Bean.

Ford was previously reported to be amongst the actors under consideration to play Colonel Hyrum Graff, a father figure of sorts for young Andrew "Ender" Wiggin at the futuristic orbital military academy for genius strategists training to lead human in interstellar combat against the alien Formics. Now, according to Variety, producers have locked Ford to play Graff, a role for which Viggo Mortensen was briefly in discussions. Ford is, of course, the iconic leading man whose credits include Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Breslin is most familiar for her Oscar-nominated role in Little Miss Sunshine, and she has since appeared in Zombieland, New Year's Eve, and Janie Jones. In Ender's Game, she;ll play the crucial role of Ender's sister, Valentine. She is the character of which Ender is most fond and, in many ways, his biggest connection to humanity. While her brother is recruited to train for the International Fleet, the brilliant Valentine becomes a prominent political voice online.

Ender and Valentine's older brother, Peter, also becomes an online demagogue with his sibling. While Valentine represents compassion and protection for the hero, Peter is a sociopathic menace. Jimmy "Jax" Pinchak, who appeared in Let Me In, has been cast as Peter. On the Battle and Command School side of things, Aramis Knight will play Bean, a student who became the center of his own spinoff novel series. Ender's other key confidante Alai and will be portrayed by freshly-cast Suraj Parthasarathy, while Moises Arias is set to play the arrogant, bullying Salamander Army commander Bonzo Madrid.

The smaller roles of Bernard and Dink are to be played by Conor Carroll and Khylin Rhambo, respectively.

For and the cadre of young actors join Hugo star Asa Butterfield as the title character, along with Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld as Petra Arkanian and Oscar winner Ben Kingsley as Mazer Rackham. Quite a cast, it must be said. Gavin Hood, the South African director who rose to international acclaim with Tsotsi then went on to helm Renditition and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, is directing from his own screenplay. Star Trek writers Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman are producing, with Digital Domain also producing and handling visual effects.

Ender's Game is scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 15, 2013.
