History Made and Records Broken

Marvel Entertainment makes history and breaks digital records this week with the release of acclaimed collections, and digital sales of a new number one.

Marvel announced on September 16th that they were releasing acclaimed and influential collections from the last decade featuring the world's most popular super hero icons on the Marvel Comics app.

Phillips, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Marvel Digital Media Group said, "We've heard the fans asking for collections on the app and we're happy to deliver them today at an unbeatable price. This is only the beginning of some exciting new developments to make the Marvel Comics app an even bigger success."

David Gabriel, Marvel Senior Vice President of Sales added, "From the moment Marvel made history as the first major publisher to enter the digital comics space in 2007 to this momentous announcement today, our goal has always been the same-grow this industry. For this launch we've chosen some of our top collections that we're confident will both resonate with new readers and encourage them to visit their local comic shop via an ad in each collection."

The collections released are:

* Astonishing X-Men Vol.1: Gifted
* Captain America: Winter Soldier Vol.1
* Invincible Iron Man Vol.1: Five Nightmares
* New Avengers Vol.1: Breakout
* Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage
* Thor By J. Michael Straczynski Vol.1
* Ultimate Spider-Man Vol.1: Power and Responsibility
* Ultimate Fantastic Four Vol.1: The Fantastic
* Ultimates Vol. 1: Super-Human
* Ultimate X-Men Vol. 1: The Tomorrow People

In other Marvel news as mentioned above, the newly relaunched Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1, which introduced the new kid behind the mask, Miles Morales, broke digital sales records this week with the best first day sales for a new release to date.

"I am completely humbled by the support and success of Mr. Miles Morales in both print and digital" said writer, Brian Michael Bendis. "Nothing frustrates an author more than his work not being able to get into the hands of the people that want it, and now with the Marvel Comics app we can!"

"We've been doing the day and date comics for about a year now since the launch of Ultimate Comics Thor #1, and each subsequent release has not only seen increased sales within the app, but we've also seen a great trend in which the print comic reorders increase exponentially," added David Gabriel, SVP of Sales. "We've been pushing to make Ultimate Comics Spider-Man our top release to date, and the results we've seen both here and in print certainly show us that we're heading in the right direction."
