Tenth Planet Oak Lawn

by Decapitated Dan Royer

Welcome to the Comic Shop Review. With this column we encourage everyone to join in as we try to build on what the Comic Shop Locator Service is doing. These need to be open coverage of all local shops in our areas, to give people a feel of what a shop looks like before going. I am sure we have all looked up a comic shop while on vacation, gone to it and been surprised by what we found, whether good or bad. So I open this to the community, go in get pictures and let the world know what these shops look like and what they have to offer.

Tenth Planet is a nice, moderatley sized comic shop located in Oak Lawn, IL. Having just moved to it's new location a real sign is still needed outside the location, but I was able to spot it because of the neon Batman and Marvel comics lights in the front window. The shop has plenty of parking on either end of the block, and if you are lucky you can pull up right in front of the store. You can also park behind the shop and enter through the back door.

Upon entering the store, from the street entrance, I noticed a good amount of space that is used for gaming and signings. They had a poster display and all of the 25¢ back issues on shelving right in front of me. There were some good grabs to be had in these boxes.

As I walked more into the store there were very nice magazine racks going down the middle that were covered in Trade Paper Backs and OGN's. To the left were display cases full of gaming materials, like Magic cards and Heroclix, you'll have to excuse me I have little knowledge on gaming items. Further into the store on the left hand side was the register/purchase counter, which behind it had some of the more collectible items; CGC books, early Daredevil's, Spider-Man's, etc.

Right next to the register more towards the back door were 2 taller display cases. At the time I was in the shop only 1 had items on display, which were statues and busts. I was told that the other display would eventually be used for showcasing the CGC books.

On the right hand side of the shop, if your entering from the street entrance, are metal racks that hold all of the new issues. They are displayed very nicely, and I found titles to be very easy to find as nothing seemed to be out of order.

All in all I think that Tenth Planet comics is a very nice, well laid out comic shop. They don't have a lot of back issues, but do have some nice selection in their 25¢ boxes, which are organized alphabetically. The staff was very friendly and engaging. A store I would easily go back to again.
