It's hard to believe that in a week where Kevin Smith returns to comics (with Batman: Caucophony #1, a review of which will be on the Column Related blog today), Comic Related's Hot Shot of the Week doesn't recognize it-but technical problems with that title, along with the excellence, relevance and strong storytelling of Alex Ross' Justice Society of America Kingdom Come Special: Superman, hand such honors to Ross.
A look at the complex psychology of the Superman of Earth-22, Ross' special feels like easily the most relevant Kingdom Come-related story to come out of Geoff Johns and Alex Ross' recent run on Justice Society of America. Without the myriad subplots that the JSA's monthly title have to distract from the story of "Kingdom Come Superman," there's a direction here for the character that has been missing in the monthly, and it gives a good deal of promise that the interesting-but-meandering Thy Kingdom Come arc may finally make sense as it nears to a close with the Magog and The Kingdom specials that are hitting over the next couple of weeks.

The Official Word
Spinning out of the "One World, Under Gog" storyline, the Kingdom Come Superman's struggle with his place in the world brings a final conflict between the Supermen of Earths 1 and 22! Feeling the weight of his own world's loss on his shoulders, the transplanted Superman searches for answers to the mystery of his life's seemingly cursed existence and encounters "old acquaintances" on the way. This is the first fully written and illustrated adventure by KINGDOM COME co-creator Alex Ross, building to the storyline's conclusion in JUSTICE OF SOCIETY OF AMERICA #22!
