FF #1

David O'Leary on the issue!

With the launch of a new title, FF (which does not stand for Fantastic Four, but Future Foundation) is a new platform for Jonathon Hickman to continue telling is long weaving tale of the exploits of the remains of the Fantastic Four.

Still dealing with the loss of Johnny, Ben, Sue and in particular Reed are beginning to move on with their lives. A recorded message from Johnny made in the event of his demise asks that his replacement on the team be taken by Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man. Spider-Man is invited to the Baxter Building to be asked to join the team. This makes perfect sense as it is not the first time that the idea of Parker joining the team has been touted, Stan Lee having written the idea back in the mid sixties, but Johnny and Peter were good friends and Johnny was one super powered being that Peter could count on in crunch. It will be difficult for him to look past the sense of friendship when asked to join the team.

There is mumblings in the online community that this will be a one year experiment and that the original numbering will return next Spring with the release of the 600th issue. Personally I think that that sales retention after the first arc will make more of a statement on that front.

The art provided by Steve Epting will show a new costume design for the team, the old one being retired however temporarily with the demise of the last FF series. The preview of the first issue below shows that the book is going to look as good as the last incarnation of it, if not better.

There should be no reason to not pick this up. Hickman will be hitting a new gear with this new book and if you have been following his stories since he came on the book, then you can agree that his turn here is one of the best since Stan Lee was writing it, no joke.
