28 Days Later #18

David O'Leary on the issue!

Those of you who read what I review may know that I am a huge fan of 28 Days Later. No book throws up as much balls to the wall entertainment as this book does. From very early on in its run now this title has been one of the best ongoing books in production today. That's no exaggeration. Michael Alan Nelson has a grasp on the scripting of this book that is unsurpassed at the moment. Current artist Alejandro Aragon has come along in leaps and bounds over the last six months and the book looks more like it did when it started to garner attention from the masses.

What makes it stand from other licensed properties is that it is actually good. For the roller coaster that the likes of fellow licensed properties Buffy and Angel that stuttered its way towards the end of their runs in terms of consistency there is no fear of a repeat of that on this book. The book has been criminally overlooked in the Eisner's this year in both writing and artistic categories but did earn an artistic nomination at this year's Eagle Awards and a nod for Sean Philips for cover work in SDCC.

What makes this the Hot Shot of the Week though is that in this issue we see Selena and Clint followed by a real world T- 1000 in the form of Captain Stiles who shows that he will stop at nothing to get Selena in his grasp. Having come so close to London in the form of an American group of soldiers who find them wandering near Newcastle, they have to endure the prospect of having to continue running. A burning question for months now has been the identity of Captain Stiles and his interest in Selena and now that the question has been broached here and will be explored in detail over the next few issues seems like a great direction to move in. With a cool dialogue free night scene, his imaginative grasp on the book and Nelson's trademarked implied dangers this book is a winner in every sense and deserving of the Hot Shot of the Week spotlight. Look for a full review over Christmas.
